In the field of architecture, waterproofing has always been a challenging issue that draws widespread attention. Whether it's the bathroom or basement in a home, or large-scale bridge or tunnel projects, if waterproofing is not properly done, leakage issues will arise in the later stages. This not only affects the lifespan of the building but also brings numerous inconveniences to our daily lives and work.

An effective solution in waterproofing: polymer waterproof mortar, easily solves the aforementioned problems.

Polymer waterproof mortar is no ordinary mortar. It is a novel waterproof mortar formulated using high-quality cement, carefully selected fine aggregates, and Redispersible Polymer Powder (RDP). Compared to ordinary adhesives, polymer waterproof mortar exhibits remarkable waterproof and impermeability effects. Ordinary adhesives are easily penetrated by water, resulting in the loss of their waterproof function. However, the Redispersible Polymer Powder (RDP) in polymer waterproof mortar forms a continuous waterproof barrier within the mortar, effectively preventing moisture penetration. It achieves a waterproofing effect that is difficult to penetrate, and its high bonding strength ensures that it adheres firmly to the substrate during construction, without easily falling off. Furthermore, it offers excellent aging and corrosion resistance, capable of withstanding long-term exposure to harsh environments while maintaining consistent waterproof performance.

Characteristics of polymer waterproof mortar

1. The coating is dense, permeable to air but impermeable to water

2. The coating has high strength and a short setting period

3. Strong bonding strength with the base surface and stable volume

4. Environmentally friendly and non-polluting, with good affinity

5. Easy to construct and ensure quality

Polymer waterproof mortar has a wide range of applications, effectively functioning in waterproofing projects for concrete structure floors, walls, as well as reservoirs, caves, tunnels, dams, and other places.

Brief introduction to the construction of polymer waterproof mortar

1. Base surface treatment

Before construction, the base surface must be complete, solid, and clean, free from oil stains, dust, and other loose materials. This is akin to laying the foundation for a building. Only by properly preparing the base surface can the waterproof mortar adhere better and exert its waterproofing effect. If there are cracks or irregularities on the base surface, they must be repaired and leveled first.

2. Stirring

Pour the powder of polymer waterproof mortar into a container filled with an appropriate amount of water, with the water quantity being about 16% to 17% of the powder. Then, use an electric mixer to stir thoroughly until it becomes a uniform, agglomeration-free thick paste. After stirring, let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes for curing. Next, stir it again thoroughly before use. This step is crucial. If the mixture is not stirred evenly, it will affect the actual performance of the waterproof mortar

3. Construction

Using the troweling method for construction, the mixed polymer waterproof mortar is evenly trowelled onto the base surface with an iron plate, and then leveled and smoothed with a trowel. The construction thickness should be determined according to different parts, generally 3.5mm for exterior walls and 5-8mm for basements and pools. When the construction thickness exceeds 3-5mm, it is necessary to carry out construction in layers. After the initial setting of the first layer of polymer waterproof mortar, the second layer is applied until the required thickness is achieved.

4. Maintenance

Wet curing is required for polymer waterproof mortar 24 hours after construction. The duration of curing depends on the temperature conditions. At room temperature, 3 to 5 days is appropriate. Curing should provide sufficient moisture for the waterproof mortar to solidify and harden properly, thereby improving its waterproof performance.
